STEM PROMOTION

Advancing Knowledge NPC is dedicated to bridging the STEM education gap in South Africa’s rural communities. Despite national efforts, many schools in these regions remain underserved, with limited access to science infrastructure, resources, and enrichment opportunities.
Each year, our STEM Roadshow reaches schools across the Western, Eastern, and Northern Cape, engaging learners through dynamic science demonstrations and hands-on activities. Our multidisciplinary team—comprising academics, educators, practitioners, and tertiary students—works to ignite curiosity and foster a deeper interest in science and technology.
In addition to learner engagement, we empower teachers through targeted training sessions, enabling them to establish and sustain science clubs within their schools. This ensures that the impact of our interventions extends beyond a single visit.
Our approach is unique in that it:
  • Reaches remote and underserved communities often excluded from mainstream STEM initiatives
  • Combines learner engagement with teacher capacity building
  • Builds sustainable STEM ecosystems through school-based science clubs
  • Leverages a diverse team of STEM professionals and emerging graduates
We are annually entrusted by the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA) to extend the reach of National Science Week into rural areas—demonstrating both credibility and national alignment.
AK NPC annually conducts its training programme for science teachers and science club practitioners to start, support, maintain and sustain STEM Clubs at schools across the Western Cape. In 2024 the training was held at the Arcelor Mittal Science Centre for West Coast schools and in 2025 in Bonnievale for Overberg and Cape Winelands schools. The training for Eden & Central Karoo is planned for May 2026.
