Learner supportAdvancing Knowledge NPC promotes a strong culture of STEM learning by supporting learners through the work of participating teachers. Learner support initiatives include science and mathematics tutorial programmes, STEM clubs, STEM shows, STEM competitions, mathematics mini-conventions, STEM exhibitions, STEM conferences, and avionics projects.
Through these initiatives, Advancing Knowledge NPC connects teacher professional development with meaningful learner support in science and mathematics. Teachers who participate in training programmes are encouraged to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills in their classrooms, strengthening STEM teaching and learning. They are also supported in establishing STEM clubs at their schools, creating additional opportunities for learners to engage with science and mathematics beyond the classroom. The STEM Club Project focuses on providing learners in rural schools with greater access to STEM learning opportunities. The project introduces learners to science, technology, engineering and mathematics through interactive, hands-on activities in a science club environment. Particularly at the primary school level, learners’ curiosity and enthusiasm for science are often sparked by engaging and visually stimulating activities that invite exploration and participation. STEM clubs provide a platform where learners can touch, experiment, explore and investigate, allowing them to develop a deeper interest in STEM subjects. These activities help bridge the gap between curriculum-based science learning and real-world challenges, encouraging learners to see the relevance of STEM in everyday life. The project aims to expand these opportunities for learners in rural communities by fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry. The STEM club environment plays a vital role in building learners’ interest and enthusiasm for natural sciences, while also sustaining their engagement by connecting classroom learning with practical applications in the world around them. The annual AK NPC STEM Club competition held in Worcester has been running since 2004 with only exception in 2022 due to COVID. The competition between science clubs is intense both for participating learners and teachers. |
